yesterday I cooked a tiny chicken and with the left over stock today I will use up three parsnips a couple of carrots and some celery and a handful of lentils and make a pot of soup which will be used for several lunches this week along with some chunks of garlic bread from the freezer.might even throw a few chopped up spuds in and make it a chunky veggie soup.
Great Idea.I have three wrinkly apples in the fruit bowl I think I may grate them up and stick into a cake with some cinnamon as well

I understand exactly what Cally is getting at.

This morning I had to bin some HM houmus. Both times I've tried making houmus, the tahini (different brands, so it wasn't an off batch) has made it taste kind of dusty and old. Quite horrible. So it had languished in my fridge and grew a fur coat.

I also have problems with my boys or hubby not eating things. They assure me they'll eat it (whatever it is) so I don't freeze it, only to find days later that it hasn't been eaten and has gone off. Makes me really angry.

I threw 2 bread crusts as I didn't have room in the freezer to stash for crumbs :(

I have 5 tiny new pots that aren't enough to make a meal but I will steam tonight and have for a salad for with my packed lunch. I saved the stalks from my mushrooms and veg peelings to make stock.

Biggest waste was ds who ate a massive bbq lunch out so didn't want his pie I made for tea - was my fault as he said he wasn't hungry but I dished him up too much so it got binned after he'd picked at it.

I use any spare bread, no matter how little to make croutons for soup . I dice the bread, and put in on an oven tray with a tiny amount of oil, and them just leave it in the oven till next time it's in anyway. Then pop them in a tupperware, ans they'll keep for ages.
My kids think they are better than shop bought ones

ate half my tiny chook last night for dinner and as I have some mushrooms that need to be used I will strip whats left of the chicken off today and make a small curry for dinner tonight.I have a few odds and ends I can chuck in with it as well.so my 99p chook has done me well.I have enough chunky veggie soup for today and tomorrows lunch as well.I love making something out of nothing ,or at least several meals out of quite a small amount.I am lucky that I have the time and there is only me to cater for I suppose which helps. By the way the apple and cinnamon cake went down well and I haf at least half left that my DGS didn't scoff in the cake tin. Used the three wrinkled apples from the fruit bowl grated up in the cake mix with a few sultanas and a teaspoon of cinnamon..Gives me enough left over for a snack with a cuppa in the afternoon until Friday at least. Much better than binning them

    Hi no problem
I adapted the recipe for Apple Cake from the www.allrecipes.co site, instead of dicing the apples I chop them in my Kendwood mini chopper (best £12.00 I ever spent )they come out like a sort of grated cheese.I use a teaspoon of vanilla extract(you know from the tiny bottles that you use to flavour sponge cakes with instead of essence as its cheaper for one thing, plus I usually bung it in a greased proof lined loaf tin and sprinkle a bit of demarrara on top I also add some sultanas to make up the weight if Im a bit short on the grated apple .Its really lovely and does use up wrinkly apples beautifully.keeps well and is very nice sometimes with a dollop of cream or custard on as a pudding .My grandsons wolf it down by the chunk.
well I managed to streeeetch my left over chicken by rummaging around in the freezer and I found some frozen chopped leeks, onion,a few sliced carrots.added to a tin of tomatoes which I had chucked some lazy garlic into along with some dried mixed herbs I made quite a fair sized pot of curry a sort of veggie one with diced up chicken as an afterthought I now have two portions in the freezer and one portion for tomorrow nights dinner. This is rubber chicken to extrem I think Three lunches of veggie soup, and including last nights salad four dinners out of a tiny 99p chicken.I love adapting food that I have to make it into something tasty which is inexpensive.
