Hi people
Need a little help, i have an old laptop from a good 3/4 years back that died (screen problem) and i havnt thought nothing much of it since, but now id like to get rid of the laptop but before doing so id like to retrieve all my old data, pics etc from the old hard-drive.
Now i see you can get usb > hard-drive connectors which is what im hoping to get, but there is soo many! And my hard-drive connections dont look anything like most of the others out there. Im hoping if i post a picture up somebody will be able to point me in the direction of a usb > harddrive connection that will fit / work
Its a 40gb Seagate hard-drive (2.5inch i think), model number: ST94Q19A from an old compaq laptop. Thanks for any replies

If it is just a screen problem (ie not a graphics card), and you have an external screen, you could plug it into a router and copy the data across the network to another pc
Otherwise a usb - 2.5" ide (pata) caddy, available for less than £5 if you shop around

the funny connector should pull off, showing lots of pins underneath!!

That's a IDE laptop drive so you'll need to look for something like this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002UZRRXG/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=103612307&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000MW7K2M&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=1BZJSAQ7FQAS4CCJVNFB
The bit at the back of your drive is just an adapter, if you pull it off (carefully) you'll see a double row of pins below it.Laters
