Hello! Just a question that made me think..

Hi

I'm not a big comper (easily bored and not lots of time) but have recently been coming to the competitions thread and scrolling through entering the odd one.

I entered the Rod Stewart one (concert at Carrow Road), then looked more closely and realised that even if I won (there has to be a first time!) I wouldn't be able to go because I'm on holiday when the concert's on. This is what made me think. Do you only enter competitions for things you actually want to win, or for just about everything? Have you ever won something and thought "nah, wont be bothering with that"? Have you handed it back or asked them to contact someone else if it's been something like a concert ticket or meal?

I felt guilty in case I DO win - it's depriving someone else of that prize, isn't it?

Don't worry as we all make mistakes on entering comps that we can't use sometimes! I try to be careful about holiday or event comps because of dates, locations or needing to drive so generally don't enter many but like most people just do comps where I can use the prizes. Still if there's nothing in the rules and you can sell something I know some msers are good at selling on ebay then why not if you were lucky enough to win!

I try not to enter for things I don't want but sometimes I enter some by mistake when I am going on holiday. Did that last year for T in the Park tickets. Royal Mail managed to misplace them tho anyway so they finished up having to pay me for them! (£360) Have given some tickets away on here when they were given out really late.

I only enter competitions for prizes I would like to win and I always check out the travel dates for holiday competitions/concerts etc and if dates not good for me I wont enter.

Downside with this is that most things I would like to win are big prizes so I dont win anything :)

I try and just enter for things that I would like, or my family, but every now and then you enter something without realising straight away you can't use it. Only once have I won something I couldn't use, tickets to a family show, but the reason was I was given less than 24hours notice by the promoter and just couldn't arrange things in time.

It wastes time to enter things that won't be of any use to you and I have limited time to enter as it is, I know that people enter for things they don't actually want but can possibly sell and have no issue with this but is not really something I do myself.

..........no point feeling guilty you can't withdraw your entry and the chances are you won't win anyway! lol

Good luck with you other competition entries!

    I won, I won, I won!
I only enter things I want to win or things I know family and friends would really like. At the moment I am entering everything Baby related as my best mate is expecting.
I have won a few things I couldnt go to, (baby sitter issues) But have nearly always passed them on to someone else on here, facebook or twitter.
I also tend to stop entering comps once I have won. Unless its dorset cereals or fru the daily little comps
    Thanks to everyone who posts

This is me exactly - I've never won a thing!

TTTB did you give the prize to someone else of ask the promotors to give it to someone else? I'd move hell and high water to go out for a free meal!

I enter most things, but if it something that involves a need to travel quite far I leave it, such as a holiday with flights from London or a hotel win somewhere down south. Other than that, I enter everything I want to win, I don't tend to enter baby type comps because I don't know anyone with a baby but I'm happy for any win the comping fairy bestows on me! :D
