refill Dell cartridges?

Hi folks,

I bought a Dell Photo 928 two or three years ago along with my Dell PC. It's an all-in-one. I hardly use the printer option, but use the scanner more often. The cartridges keep drying out, and as soon as that happens I can't use the scanner anymore.
So I'm wondering if I should get the Dell cartriges refilled or just cut my losses and get a different printer that takes cheaper cartriges... reason being that the Dell cartridges cost £20 a pop and can only be ordered from Dell, which is a reall pain in the neck.

One option, and probably setting it to print at best will give acceptable results whenever you do use the printer
