I just want answers please, the company i worked for is closing and moving over to another country and my job wasn't been made redundant until aug this year, but my mother was told her illness was terminal and she hasn't much time left. My boss told me that I could put in for VR which ment I could go sooner and they gave me a date of the 20th may then they came back and said the 27th may. In between them giving me VR i got a chance of a job that ment I needed to leave before the 27th may. When I approasched my boss to tell her, her first words were you're not getting your money as we can't afford to llet you go any earlier. Can they do this? scro

Sad as it is, if you want to leave before the agreed redundancy date they don't have to pay you anything.
Sorry about your Mum, this must be a difficult time for the family.:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -

If I had been your boss I would have then thought that the facility for you to leave early wasn't really needed if you were happily going to go straight to another job rather than spend time with your mum.0 -
You might be able to get the redundancy
You need to look up "counter notice"
There are a few threads on here and other sites.0 -
Yes they can do that as its voluntary and I think they can even withdraw the voluntary offer. Sorry to hear about your Mum. Can the new job not wait until 27th May? - that's not very long. I hope you can get to spend some time with your Mum.0

For counter notice I think VR makes no difference, once under notice of redundancy you can issue counter notice and IMO there is a very good chance that an ET would uphold the payment if the company refused to pay.0
