Wedding menu curses!

See, if I had come to your wedding, I would only have eaten dessert. I will not eat pate and I hate lamb. But (and this is my point), I wouldn't have told you, so you wouldn't be any wiser about it. So that's one person who you would think was happy with the food. We're English, after all

I totally agree - regardless of my opinion I wouldn't let the bride know.
Our approach is to get something that is kind of middle of the road, to appeal to most people, but accept that there will always be people who don't like some element. I don't want people to go hungry, but we can't cater for everything.
Basically nothing too spicey, nothing too 'fishy', no duck (mainly as I don't like it!), and not just plain chicken!
I have learnt through this process to take into account your guests needs, but no matter what you do it won't suit everyone, so you have to accept that a bit. And then when you do bend over backwards for something, the guest changes their mind!0 -

but also would not be so rude as to complain to the bride!
Thanks for your manners, we just assumed everyone had been happy by all the empty plates that were taken out!Impet_Limpet wrote: »I've decided not to put the menu on the invites, just a request to let us know dietry requirements (allergies, halal, etc), they can bloody well eat what they get given on the day.
Have to admit that was our feeling too!0 -
At this stage I wouldn't rule out the beef as an option based on the fact that the joints caterers cook are very large and they usually cook several to accomodate the fact that there are different preferences....I am sure they will be able to do one joint rare one medium and one well done to suit all tastes..talk to your venue its probably a problem they have seen more than once...
You'll also be surprised that guests often use weddings to eat things that they wouldn't normally consider...and find as its cooked well and presented to them nicely on a plate..it actually tastes qute nice...at our wedding no one but me was looking forward to the salmon course I really wanted except me...no one refused it and I cant remenmber seeing it left uneaten BUT 17 years on and my husbands gran still tells me its the nicest piece of fish she's ever eaten!frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Could you not possibly have a menu to send to guests with only 2 or 3 starters, 2-3 mains and 2-3 desserts? Thats what we're doing and then get the guest to tick it off

we went for a hot cavery buffet, we had a joint of beef, a turkey, joint of gammon and a side of salmon with seasonal veg, roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings.
the veg option was some kind of goats cheese slice in pastry, no idea but all the vegi guests loved it.
we went for smoked salmon and brown bread as one starter or vegetable soup as starter number 2 so there was a choice in that option and that was served at the table. then people went up table by table to get their main course.
then pudding we went up table by table and there was three to choose from, a dark chocolate torte, a white chocolate torte and a fruit tart all with cream or ice cream.
then we had wedding cake again a choice of fruit cake or chocolate granache which people were served and tea or coffee again served at the table.
we did it this way as im the fussiest person going and that way having the carvery ment there would be something everyone liked to eat even if it was just yorkshire puddings and potatoes!0 -
We took the menu round to H2B parents at lunch time and explained people are going to have to be a little more adventurous in their choices, thankfully they'd thought the same thing since first looking at the menu, and figured it was time to try something a little different, so they were really understanding and we actually have two dishes from each course so we'll do those for the tasting session.
It's nice to know that we are not alone in this though, I never thought choosing a menu would be so difficult - I can honestly say we spent more time on this than I did on choosing (and trying on) wedding dresses!:kisses2: Got married September 2011:smileyhea

Have what YOU and YOUR H2B like and don't worry about trying to keep everyone else happy because it's not going to happen is it?
I can understand trying to please people but I have to agree with the above quote unless people are allergic or don't eat certain things for religious reasons in which cause ask for that bit to be left out.:kisses3: Married 29th September 2012

i was in a subway the other day and thought how cool that would be, didnt realise they actually do it!0

They do corporate catering, so I asked and they said yes.
( I was in a jam as my first caterer cancelled 2 weeks before I got wed  )
We were thrilled with the service, and they even sent us a wedding card that the best man read out
.
It worked really well, they delivered to our venue ( a cricket club ) all the food was on platters which had lids to keep it all fresh till after the speaches
. It was lovely on a hot day, just what we wanted. Cross Stitch Cafe Member No: 86 :j0
