Wedding menu curses!

We've spent the last few days trying to figure out our wedding menu. It really sucks :(
We had a massive list to choose from - we crossed out the stuff neither of us liked, then crossed out other stuff on the basis that someone else wouldn't like it or it wasn't practical (e.g. beef was too complicated - FiL2B has a fit if there's any pink, whereas my stepdad would eat it even if it was still mooing)

After we did that it left us with not even enough for a tasting session.

OH is so fussy with food which greatly limits what we can have!
Out of 11 soups he likes....1,
19 starters he likes 3,
19 mains he likes 6 but then three of those were beef, one has spices which I can't eat leaving two, the two left are chicken with FiL2B isn't keen on.

Desserts that should be easy but he doesn't like fruit and I don't like cream...The only things left are some variation on chocolate cake - which I know for a fact my cousin can't eat...

The evening is sorted as we're having bacon/sausage butties and mini fish n chip cones.

What sort of menu are you guys considering?

This may not be possible for you, but any chance you could have a buffet? You could still have fairly posh food but that way everyone could pick and choose what they like. Did you get given a list of meals the caterers can do? Can you change anything about them? For example, maybe have fish instead of beef? Although more people are picky about fish than they are about meat. Can't you just say to the caterers to make sure the beef is well done?

Oooh Impet Limpet, I'm having the same problem (am attempting to sort it out very early to avoid the stress of sorting it out next year!)

My dad is like your FIL2B... Any sort of pink in the beef and he'll refuse to eat ANYTHING on the plate :( (which would spoil my day!)

My gran is also the same, and when I suggested chicken she moaned about not liking the tarragon sauce as it'll be "too spicey" - she's never tried tarragon and it's a herb :(

I'm like your H2B... Very fussy and only really eat chicken, although my dad HATES chicken...

We also have the best man who's allergic to dairy, various meats etc so it's hard to cater for her without her having a separate menu.

I suggested to my family having a melon-y starter to which my dad and gran objected!

I don't like cream, so the choice of profiteroles are out, which would probably suit most people (minus the lactose intolerant person and me.)

I've emailed the venue asking if they could cater for my dad, who's the most fussiest out of everyone.

I think soup and chicken are usually the most popular dishes.

My OH wants to send out menu choices and then use the replies to find the most popular and that will be our menu...

It's hard cos you wanna make sure everyone eats but you can't cater for everyone! Think what you and your H2B like and people will just have to fit around that, most people will like one course and they can have the wedding cake as pudding!

I know what I've said isn't much help, but I want you to know that you're not the only one with this problem! (It wouldn't be so bad if the fussy people weren't the important ones in the wedding!)

I've got the same problem too...but it's more me and my kids that are the fussier ones. I'm going to let people see the veggie option as well as they may prefer that if if they're normally meat-eaters. I keep looking at the menu, getting headache thinking about it then saying I'll do it another day!

We only like battered fish - and we're having that in the evening so that might be really odd.

Also if the beef is well done my stepdad won't like it!

The buffet in the day isn't an option for us I'm afraid (my gran refuses!), however the deputy manager at the hotel (he's been really good) has said if we REALLY can't nail down a menu we can offer an alternative for one person (i.e. as my H2B is the most fussy we could allow him to decide on a separate dish to the rest of the menu). This would certainly leave us with more dishes to work from for everyone else.

Spooneymoose - you are a jumbled version of us, profiteroles was a dessert H2B could manage but I hate them! :rotfl:

Is Gran paying for the meal? What is with people who have to have their own way at weddings, I just turn up and eat what is put in front of me which is the polite thing to do. Have what YOU and YOUR H2B like and don't worry about trying to keep everyone else happy because it's not going to happen is it?

We're having choice of chicken, salmon, or goats cheese and roasted vegetable tartlet, with jacket potatoes and a variety of salads, followed by lemon cheesecake, (by order of the groom), chocolate fudge cake (by order of the bride), or fresh fruit.

In the evening we have a hog roast, and thanks to ideas from fellow MSE members, the veggies are having a choice of either a field mushroom with haloumi and salsa, or a roasted stuffed half pepper to go into the buns instead of pork.

Hopefully this should suit everyone and be quite easy!

We chose what we'd like on our menu, the 2 veggies had what we liked the sound of in the vegetarion options and the gluten & wheat intolerant person made her own arrangements direct with the venue.

    Our September menu was:

    Chicken liver pate
Bowland lamb, new potatoes & seasonal veg
Sticky toffee pudding & butterscotch sauce (FiL "doesn't eat dates" but he wolfed this down!)

See, if I had come to your wedding, I would only have eaten dessert. I will not eat pate and I hate lamb. But (and this is my point), I wouldn't have told you, so you wouldn't be any wiser about it. So that's one person who you would think was happy with the food. We're English, after all ;)

on the flip side of that i would have wolfed the 1st two courses and left the yucky pudding!
but also would not be so rude as to complain to the bride!

I've decided not to put the menu on the invites, just a request to let us know dietry requirements (allergies, halal, etc), they can bloody well eat what they get given on the day.

Yes my Gran has contributed £1k to our wedding and she has been wonderful in the planning!
