I believe it is possible to incorrectly fit the temp control knob so that it does not actually operate the mechanism behind leaving it stuck usually in hot.0

I had a similar problem on an old Ford Escort. It coincided with the automatic choke being on and the engine always revving high and using a lot of fuel.
If I remember correctly it was due to a faulty temperature sensor and cost less than £50 to fix. The sensor was incorrectly reporting a cold engine which caused all the other problems.0
