Freesat is just what it says ie SATellite delivery not, Aerial delivery as in Freeview. Satellite offers more channels , and there are even more if you work outside of the Freesat framework. The Freesat framework is basically just an EPG to allow you to schedule programs (or check what is on, or record them too) However there are a lot of free-to-air channels on the same Astra satellites on the Freesat position (28.2 E same as Sky btw) If your box has the ability to use non-freesat mode you can access them (but just not see the EPG). I have a Humax foxsat-hdr which is very good and has HD and 500g disk. There are mod's available for it to to allow it to be used for a Samba Server, FTP, DNLA player (mediatomb or twonky) and there is the ability to transfer non Humax video content with a conversion prog which works on Windows. I had no idea you could get more channels using a Humax foxsat than you can get with Sky. You have almost convinced me to go the foxsat PVR route but it does appear to be double the cost of freeview PVR.

When September comes and I want the Sky football back I will get verbals from the OH that I spent a couple a hundred on a box I don't use.
