Apparently it is official Post Office policy to take an extra 14 days to deliver HMRC mail compared to anyone else - at least, someone on the HMRC phonelines tried to suggest this to mem once!Hideous Muddles from Right Charlies0

hi every one, not to sure what to do but i am at wits ends, I am due a rebate for £ 67,788.44 according to my online accounts, requested repayment via online account and have now been waiting since June 23 rd , no news no letters and no change on internet link, however upon consent ringing after the 4 week deadline I am now informed that the payment request has now been passed upon another department for security checks, uninformative reply by the clerk in respect of explaining why ! so friends my question is why and how long do you think it will be to my refund is honored, should I be worried ?0

Given the size of the refund you stated, I would suggest in future you seek professional advice. A return from a taxpayer not rubberstamped by an agent and seeking a refund to the tune of £68k is a red flag to the HMRC bull!
I often find client's refunds will be passed to the Bristol office for "repayment checks". All I've been able to establish of this office over plenty of calls is that they are ensuring the account payee is correct.
What checks they run there is beyond me, it seems that they simply want to hang onto the bigger refunds for a little longer. Cashflow management!
If you would like to discuss your affairs, please do not hesitate to contact my office on 01257 24 11 11 - ask for Chris. (Apologies if plugs aren't allowed!)0 -
Yes that is too blatant.
When you have got a few stars against your name for postings, you might get away with "send me a PM if you need more details".
[I think I would be very reluctant to authorise a new found friend on the interweb to collect 68k for me - I keep on getting offers like that in my email inbox from Nigeria.]0 -
What is the reason for this massive overpayment of tax? And which tax is it - corporation tax, VAT, income tax? Mor info. needed here if you are to get any useful help.Hideous Muddles from Right Charlies0
