I got married in the village this house is in. I had a shock at the interior when I looked through the pictures not at all what you'd expect.

If you squint very very hard, you just may think you are in the ancient Greece... Nah, still an ugly 70s terrace! :rotfl:

Certainly a case of 'more money than taste' . A lot of ex-council houses on the estate I grew up on have interiors and decor that don't suit the house. Even my parents' house has some ghastly artex.

The issue of 'poor taste' is an argument for abolishing discounts on council homes bought under 'right to buy' . It won't stop everyone turning their 20th century house into a tribute to ancient Greece or Dickensian London but it's a start. :D

I thought this the funniest post I'd read in ages, but then I began to wonder if it was, perhaps, created with more serious intent than the trompe l'oeil.

    Yup!

"We have had 36 wonderful years of family life in our very much loved home."

No it wasn't! Poor house has been abused and is starting to develop identity issues! Will need to have years of counseling and sympathetic decorations done to it!

Well - actually - the house itself wouldnt put me off. The road its on would though....

I tend to find that I'm astonished/shocked by a house that isnt either white/bland/plain on the one hand or very obviously genuine "character" on the other hand. That reaction is down to "They couldnt have envisaged selling the house ever - because its showing up very obviously as THEIR individual taste (ie not white/bland or obviously "full of character"). At that point - I start wondering what happened to their financial situation that they are selling....

For those wondering - my house comes into the bland/white category basically - as I always expected to sell it at some point (make that - I'm wondering if/when I will ever be able to "move on" these days - but its still obviously one thats meant to "move on" from on at some point - so little sign of "individual taste"). I DO tend to assume that evidence of "individual taste" = "I never expected/intended to sell it but Hard Times have come up".
