Can any one give me a advice,my son had some blurter run into back of him at a set of red lights, this reptile than proceeded to make a quick getaway but not before my son got make model and reg of his vehicle which was badly damaged. My sons car is just driveable but his insurance co seem to be doing nothing after 4 weeks they are only just writing to the police re this matter. My son reported the hit and run within minutes of the collision to the police but they have not contacted my son either!
My sons ins co confirmed that the vehicle that ran into him was insured but suprise suprise the insured has not reported any accident,My sons insurance is fully comp but it seems he is doing all the running around:confused:

Unfortunately, the ins co won't do any of the running around for him, but I would have thought that his car would have been repaired by now. I assume he has asked them to repair it and he isn't waiting to to try to claim from the other driver?

The ins co's responsibility pretty much ends at fixing your son's car and then trying to recover the funds from the other driver's insurers. If the policy includes legal cover then he may get assistance in trying to recover uninsured losses like his excess.

The police should have found him by now with their ANPR cameras in patrol cars  Just prod them again and insist they visit the offender and say you want to prosecute, failing to stop as in this scenario is an offense.

Although the police won't really care is my guess.

    Agree with anewman

Your insurers would do a DVLA check to confirm the owner of the vehicle and then write to them accusing them of being involved - the DVLA takes a week or two to come back assuming everything is as it should be, longer if there are issues like a new buyer having not informed them that they have purchased the vehicle but the seller has etc. Unfortunately if it was the owner of the vehicle driving then the hit and run sort tend to ignore letters about it.

At the same time the insurer should also do a MID check to confirm if there is any insurance on the vehicle.... if there is then they will write to the TPI advising they are holding their client liable. They will write back and say they are unaware of the incident please provide more details. When this is received they will then contact their client and request their response and return to your insurers with it.... as you can guess takes time. If there is no insurance noted on MID then there is little that can be done down this route.

If there is no insurance on MID and the TP doesnt respond to letters/ chasers then the insurer will take the call on if it is worth sending out an investigator or not.

All of this is the TP side of the claim however, as you have comp insurance the repairs to your own vehicle should be continuing irrespective of the TP side of it.
