My wife thought she was paying £4.99 to download a game but we now find she has subscribed to pay monthly amounts for a year. Has anyone else come across this. The site says if you cancel you have to pay for the whole year anyway.
We came across the site from a direct link from Microsoft!

Cancel your card and tell your bank not to pay any DDs to these scam artists.

stone7, can I just check - when you say cancel the card do you mean tell my bank to cancel the direct debit authority? Many thanks to you both.

I'm now being told by my bank that I didn't enter into a Direct Debit agreement but a Subscription Charge Agreement and that the only way to cancel it is to ask Wild Tangent to cancel the agreement.
Not sure what to do now.

Try asking in the consumer rights section perhaps.

Contrary to an earlier advice, Nationwide are telling me that even cancelling my credit card will not do any good. See below

I can confirm by cancelling your credit card and us issuing you with a new one will not stop the merchant from debiting your account. As mentioned in the previous email we advise you to contact the merchant and cancel the subscription with them directly. If the merchant continues to debit your account after you have cancelled we will attempt to raise a claim on your behalf to recover the funds.
