PC World - No email??

Options
Aaargh... All I'm trying to do is get a replacement mains cable for my laptop (as the original one does not want to work) and I have just spent 30 minute tonight on their 0870 phone lines being passed from pillar to post... I phoned Friday to get this sorted, explained that it was urgent as I worked from home & hence needed it fast (no work, no pay!) and yet still nothing.... Apparently today they've emailed Compaq to ask them to ring me to let me know when they can send it.... How long does it take to post a cable???!! I said that I would have lost a week's wages by the time they send it, but of course they're not bothered!

All the woman on the phone just now could do was either give me (an 0870) number to phone Customer Services or a snail mail address - I cannot believe that a company such as PC World don't have the facility to be contacted by email??!

So am currently very cross...... with the incompetents there...

If it is urgent could you not call into the nearest store and pick one up. It seems a bit unusual for a mains cable to fail .. not exactly much to go wrong. Is it he power supply itself that has failed/

Can't be doing with companies that don't have email (especially not an IT company!).

If you do need one urgently you can usually pick up a reconditioned one on ebay for a good price. I had the same problem with John Lewis and my Toshiba laptop - it was going to take six weeks to get a new lead to me!!

http://www.saynoto0870.com/ use the freephone number :)

Cant you just go and buy a cable if you need it that desperately they are only about £2
  • No, a local PC shop informed me it has to be the proper Compaq one due to voltage & stuff and he reckoned about £100!!!!! (he doesn't sell them so wasn't trying to get me to buy it through him). I did see them online for about £30 but it just makes me so cross that this large organisation cannot get their act together & get one sent out immeidately I have phoned them to request a replacement. It is barely an 8 month old (and expensive) laptop. Yes, I asked if I could go to the local (well, 15 miles away) store, but apparently they don't keep any there.... (not even in their repairs section!!!) Utterly ridiculous. But as I have still had no phone call from Compaq to confirm they are sending one I may have to buy one (but then I'll be trying to claim the cost back from PC World!!!!). However, I shall also never use them again & will be very vocal in not recommending them to anyone!!!!
  • Oh, and it is the small metal connector bit that actually goes into the laptop - it has completely snapped apart from the rest of the power cable!!!! (Luckily it's not stuck inside the laptop!).

Exactly the same problem I had. John Lewis had several of the same model in stock, but would not just swap my lead with one of them until they could get me a replacement! If it is going to be easier, perhaps you could suggest to them (if you ever hear from them!) that you get one yourself and then invoice them?
