Have you changed the POP/SMTP server details in your email client from the O2 ones to those stated in the Orange help and support pages?
If your email client is still trying to send through O2's server it will probably be rejected as you are no longer a customer of theirs.
The Orange server shouldn't care whether your mails have an O2 sending address - the constraint is there to stop spammers from exploiting "open relay" email servers.0 -
Yes, O2 SMTP servers reject emails sent from computers connected to other networks. They don't care what you call yourself, or what you say your email address is, etc, only that you are connected to an ISP that isn't them.
As Fwor says, you'll have to set your Outgoing Mail Server to use Orange's SMTP server. You can however continue using the O2 pop3 or IMAP account to collect your emails. Alternatively, log into "My O2" and look around for a way to have emails automatically forwarded to your nominated Orange email address.0 -
Hi davmail
As fwor and RussJK advised, you would need to change your outgoing server settings to use Orange's SMTP server. This server is smtp.orangehome.co.uk.
You can find further information if you search for something like "problems sending email" in the Help and Support section of our website.
I hope this helps!

I have an O2 email account -have had for donkies years but never been with O2 as an ISP.
what email client are you using? likely your outgoing POP settings are incorrect:
Outgoing: smtp.o2.co.uk
username: username@o2.co.uk (in full with the @o2.co.uk bit)
Outgoing port is 25
Don't try to log on with Secure Password Authentication because O2 can;t cope (god knows why I'm still with them and they're still stuck with ancient security holes still open)
Do tick the box saying your outgoing server requires identification0 -
ISP email addresses are always a terrible idea, I'd take the one-time pain of sorting it and and change over to an independent service.0

As suggested above, use smtp.orangehome.co.uk for the outgoing email as Orange block any traffic going elsewhere on the port usually used for SMTP. However, even that is not guaranteed to work in my experience. It is almost a year ago, but a friend couldn't send emails reliably and using the IP address of 193.252.22.138 instead of smtp.orangehome.co.uk seemed to fix it - well it's still working anyway!
Orange were of absolutley no help whatsoever, I found that answer on a web forum.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
