unfitted carpet as walkway?

hi there,
we are having someone stay in a property, that has hard flooring. They have leg pain issues, so we are thinking of getting a carpet walkway (stapled to a layer of underlay). However, the carpet and underlay, that are stapled together, will not be glued or attached to any actual floor - so we'll be able to roll it up, when the person is not there.
We previously thought of just putting rugs around the place, but this may be a tidier and more economical option.
The walkway should be just wide enough for someone to walk comfortably.
I was wondering - is this a feasible proposition for carpet wharehouses or showrooms to deal with, or do they mostly just deal with fittings?
Also - does anyone have any recommendations on the type of carpet to absorb shock. Obviously we are thinking the thicker the better.
thanks

Think your idea of underlay & carpet stapled together sounded a pretty good idea. Would be careful about rugs because it's so easy to trip up & you don't want anyone having a nasty fall. Some nice thick underlay(non slip) & carpet would help absorb shock. Good luck, hope you find a good safe solution.0

Wouldn't some decent memory foam type slippers be a cheaper and possibly safer alternative?Adventure before Dementia!0
