Can anyone think of a field I can get into with more money?

Another possibility, if you have the space, is taking overseas students in for the summer while they attend language school. You'd need to check what the requirements are, but now is the time to be getting them for this summer as the language schools would be doing CRB checks before placing anyone with you. Again, it can pay quite well in some cases.
It depends whether the OP needs an occasional top-up, or just more hours all year round. If the current job is only ever term time, then anything which can be done in school holidays is worth investigating - have just thought, working in holiday playschemes? That would give good experience for going on to teach later, too.
Of course there's all the usual of bars, restaurants, supermarkets, call centres - all the places which are open either 24/7 or at least evenings and weekends!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thanks for the ideas
I think I will speak to the helpline and see what my options are like for a graduate teacher training course.
I currently do TEFL, teaching foreign students.
I have thought about going to S Korea, but I can't get the money to get myself over there and get set up. I know they reimburse the airfare but I just have no credit and you need a bit of a safety net to do something like that.
I'm trying to do top up stuff at the moment, but you just get hamstrung in so many ways by having no money. Like I can't buy a desk to put my pc on so I can write ergonomically.
I'm not giving you a sob story, just saying if I can get a job with a good wage I think that might be my best bet at the moment even if it means giving up TEFL.0 -
Like I can't buy a desk
Milk crates and a few planks of wood with a tablecloth, call it modern art. If you were going abroad, investing in furniture would be a bad idea anyway0 -
Could you get a p/t job in something else that would provide you with a regular income whilst allowing you to continue teaching? I believe my Spanish teacher has an admin job on top of teaching.
Or like others have said, branch out into teaching something else such as numeracy/ literacy. Have you already for the qualification for teaching adults (PTTL or whatever it's called)?0 -

Yep that does work, the amount of working stuff people throw away is ridiculous. Recycling is very green so deserves a pat on the back, saves a tree not buying new
I know someone moving abroad /learning spanish in order to gain a foreign aid job. Not very good pay but nicer scenery0 -
Lots of young people are currently doing TEFL and then teaching English in Korea, Japan, China etc and you get a good living allowance and accomm/flights. But you might spend 1yr over there working and come back and be in the same situation. It is probably more beneficial to find something here which will lead to long term gains e.g. PCGE or buying and selling shares.0
