How easy would this be to replace on an Acer Aspire 5050?
Is it something a non techie could do or can you give an idea of how much a shop would charge please?

If it is one that when you look into it is yellow plastic, chances are you can fix it yourself by hooking something under the flat bit of metal and prising it up hard against the pin, holding it there a few seconds then releasing.
If its a black one, chances are its soldered to the mainboard. It'll need the laptop completely dismantling to do. I typically charge £30 plus the cost of a socket if needed (about £1) and return postage at £10. There's a guy on Ebay who used to offer a service doing it.
However you need someone with a voltmeter to check its not a broken wire in the charger lead as they usually fail where it solders onto the plug.0
