Car accident, other driver did not stop - involve insurance co?

As I was leaving the local supermarket a black bentley silver spur drove in to me and did not stop. I have reported to police so avoid any comeback against me but am wondering now whether I should tell my insurance company. The damage to my car is probably about £400 to fix but I suspect my excess is at least £250 and on a 10 year old low value car the damage will probably not lower the value that much if I just leave the dent and polish the scratches.

If I don't want to claim do I have to inform the insurance company now or only on renewal? Can I inform the insurance company but also say I don't want to claim. I did get the number plate of the third party but do not have an independent witness and it seems the area in question is not covered by the supermarkets CCTV.

Any advice gratefully accepted.

PS It was a private plate silver spur retail is 133k or 150k so I suspect it might be someone famous?
I think....

The other driver has committed an offence, leaving the scene of an accident. Presumably the police will be chasing it up.

When the pollice catch up with them claim from their insurance.

It will be in your insurnace t & c's that you have to inform them of any incident but make sure you tell them that for the moment it is
for 'Information only' Unfortunately your premiums could rise at renewal, lots of insurance companies do this whether yu are at fault or completely innocent.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

    Someone famous?

Are you actually aware of how much money bankers, executives, even council chiefs make these days? :)

Well it was very close to the Arsenal and Watford training ground and choosing a Bentley rather than something more anonymous suggests a desire to be noticed?

Although a quick google suggests this is an 'entry level' model and 1750 Bentleys were sold in the UK n the last 2 years so may be it isn't that exclusive...

If i was you I would get the CCTV, incase the bently says you hit him, and then your insurance will have to pay £20k.

Something that may relate happened to me, but stupid person didnt realise I have CCTV.

Anyways they told there insurance I hit them, I didnt tell my insurance anything, as it was trivial, and at the scene the other person we'd leave it, his fault.

Received a letter, told my insurance to give me the claim handlers details, and talked to them and forwarded CCTV, never heard from them again.

I was tempted to claim for bumper scuff (added to other scuffs), but I am a man of my word and we agreed to leave it at that at the scene.
