Went looking for a new black ink cartridge the morning but instead bought ink refill kit from Tesco's. Can't seem to find out how to do it in teh instructions and it makes general reference to chip set for epsom printer. Grateful for any clues as to how to refill the black cart or have I justed wasted a fiver

Thanks

Some older Epsons needed a chip resetter like this even if you used new compatibles

The recent compatibles seem to plug straight in

IMO refills are messy beyond the saving, if any, you can get two colour and two black cartridges for £8 here including delivery

They are £1:80 a pair here, though delivery is extra

As to refilling, usually two holes are needed on the top of the cartridge, each being approximately half an inch in from the end of the cartridge, you may also need to tape ove the bottom hole when filling.

Is it a JR Refill Kit?

Mine is slightly older (C46). I need to use a chip resetter before refilling. You can get them cheaply off Ebay or on a market.

You will need plastic gloves, loads of newspaper, toilet paper to mop up spills and selotape.

Put Selotape over the out hole in the bottom - DO NOT TOUCH THE CHIP as finger grease will corrode it. Peel off the label on the top. You will see 3 holes at the back of the cartridge (colour) and one for black. Inject ink there, if it overspills mop it up quickly.

Put selotape over the holes at the back, leaving a breathing space at the front. Do a search for SSC Service Utility. Very useful!

Remove the selotape from the bottom and insert cartridge. Run a head cleaning cycle and then print a 1" block of each colour (or of black) at high resolution. If it doesn't print try adjusting the selotape or leave it overnight to soak into the print head.

Has worked for me for years.
