Ok, well heres how it is...
I'm 16 and am looking for some advice on money etc.
I have no job and have spent months searching here, there and everywhere for one, with no luck.
I have pretty much no money, and my parents, although they give me everything I need, don't give me money for stuff I want.
So I was looking for some tips for how to earn a bit of cash, get some cheap deals/ freebies for christmas presents, and just some general advice on how to handle being 16 and skint!

I could bore you to death with an answr to that but I'll make it brief. At your age I was working on a market stall and at ASDA. If I could go back to me at 16 (I'm 30) I would say save at least 50 pcnt of whatever you earn. You'll soon amass some descent savings doing that and get yourself off to a descent start in life. One of my friends mums actually took 50pcnt off her and then gave it her all back at 21. She was (relatively) minted.

If you cant find a job how about getting some more qualifications that would help you get a job in the future. If you went to college you could receive up to £30.00 a week for studying depending on your patients income. Helping out in a local charity shop is aso worth while and good to put on your CV and you often get freebies . A good old fashioned paper round such as the local papers will also give you a bot of extra money.

Babysitting!!! To make yourself stand out, why not take a first aid course and make some leaflets advertising yourself. You can get CRB checked too and hand out at local schools, nursery schools etc. You would be so surprised at how many people will need you!!

And, on the plus side, what other job could you do that would allow you to watch tv and eat for the majority of your time there (once the kids are in bed)?

That was how it was when I was at school and college, I had pretty much everything I wanted or needed and didnt have to work, household chores etc but nothing too bad. It worked out really good as long as I had a reason for doing or having somthing I just asked and mum and dad did what they could. You will look back and think how lucky you were.

I used to save the money I would get when I went to college and stuck it in the bank every friday and I saved up loads. I also started selling programs at Burnden park which didnt pay much but it was a foot in the door, my mum worked in the exec club and I was asked to do a few nights glass collecting which was easy and paid pretty well but was only a few nights a week at the most.

All the money I saved I bought a CD writer for my PC, a single speed writer and it cost me about £400 but it was a godsend no one else had them so I could sell disks for £10-£15 without a problem buying disks for £1.50 and selling them for alot more it was easy money. Unfortunatly that time has past and everyone has cd/dvd writers now I got out of that sort of stuff when I started working I no longer needed to do it and the prices of cds was no where near as good as a few more people had writers. There is no money in it now £1 a disk is the most you can get you need to shift a load now to make anything. I also built PC's for people using my knowledge, buy the bits and sell the PC's on to order people were happy to pay £1000 for a decent PC and that is what they got back then as they would have cost a lot more anywhere else I would make about £300 a pop. again that is no longer open as everyone expects to get a PC for £300 from dell and are no longer prepared to pay for a decent pc when they see them for alot less.

Sorry not much use but the advise is solid, use your skills and knowledge to your ability and you can make a fortune. Stacking shelves or flipping burgers is fine for some people but I wasnt in to formal work, Im still not I work for myself as and when I want but now its all legal and above board.

my mates would be working most weekends, I was down at Burnden Park watching the football. even when I started working I had money in the bank, all the other lads would be skint the week before payday so I set myself up as a loan shark LOL lend them the monay they wanted and they paid me back +20% when they got paid.

I sound soo dodgy LOL

Wants and needs.....
I want a BMW sports coupe, i dont need one so any old car will do. However,
I do Need a new boiler as my old one is broken, my kids need to be warm this winter and apparently my wife needs hot water............

So The spirit of MSE is? Needs, the op needs nothing as the parents give everything so come on give me a break and all of us other hard working parents who would love to give their kids everything .. THank You:rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

I wasn't having a pop at my parents or anybodys parents, so calm down a bit!, just saying there are things I want which they aren't wiling to buy me, which is fair enough I would do the same if I where them.

Unless your trying to tell me I am not allowed to want things I don't need? Which is silly.

Nick, if you just want to earn a little bit of cash, look at doing chores for your folks - I am not saying things like wash the dishes - look for opportunities such as seeing if there is anything you or your folks don't want and flogging it on Ebay.

Take a cut of the profit. Who knows, you might be able to earn a living out of it.

I would personally in your position do things like that whilst attending an evening class of some kind to become a plumber or electrician and hopefully in a couple of years be earning loads!
