Tax Refund Help

Right so my last two jobs started mid way through the tax years, once in September 2007 and the other last November. And in both tax years I have been paying tax from day 1 despite the fact I didn't receive any benefits in the 07/08 tax year, and only 8 weeks in 10/11.
Now I managed to get the 10/11 one sorted out thanks to the DWP sending me a statement of earnings, and should get my refund from that. However they couldn't send me proof that I didn't receive anything in the 07/08 tax year as "they delete records after a 14 month gap"....I checked all my bank statements going back to about January 2007, and that way can prove that my last benefit previous to 2010 was in the last week of march 2007(therefor before the 07/08 year started).....would this suffice as evidence to prove that I didn't receive tax that year if I send all my 12 statements which would show all the earnings I got from my job, and that none I got from DWP(which they randomly presumed was £1200 on my P60 so about a £300 overpayment.)
Basically in 07/08 I have been taxed for about earnings of £11,000, despite only earning £9,800.
Don't ask me why I didn't do the 07/08 one then, I tried, but I was pretty busy with work back then(it was probably why this account was initially made to be honest, then I just forgot)
