Good afternoon guys-
Having various connection problems after going wireless on my old desktop. Bloke in computer shop told me that i can do a 'slimline' restore of xp without losing any data as i have an old reload CD i got with computer from Tiny.
He did mention briefly to me how to do it but i can't remember exacly what he said and not sure about goiing forward now.
What i can tell you is that is has being years since i used the CD and it takes PC to out of box condition which is obviously what i don't want. I just want XP files reapired/reloaded if possible.
The options i will have if loading CD are-
R Restore
D Details
S Repair boot sectors
C cancel
anyone help?
thanks

I doubt a windows repair will fix the wireless problems, and the disk you have is likely to wipe the lot.
Alternative is to post a hijackthis log, and specifics about the problem and scan with malwarebytes, or backup your data and take back to factory settings.!!

Thanks closed- i am actually close to the stage of purchasing a new desktop. I tried pretty much everthing i can think of and posted a hjt log a few weeks ago. I think it's something to do with USB drivers-
What i have noticed in evewnt viewer is this-
'general purpose usb driver (adildr.sys) service failed to start due to follwing error.
the service cannot be started, either because it is diabled or because it has no enabled device associated with it'
When i googled this some off the forums i went into mentioned usb modems which is actually what i used (and occasionally still do because of wireless probs).
However, i do not think it is this as everytime i try to go wireless on the usb adaptor (i have tried 3 now) i have used revo uninstaller to make sure i have got totally rid off the usb modem software.
It's really weird- i have surfed wirelessly for various amounts of time (sometimes over an hour) before it decides to kick me out to blue screen. The signal strength shows between good and excellent.
It's got me totally beat and i reluctant to give and buy a new pc but the time spent on this is doiing my head in.
options?
1) a pci into motherboard if it can take one
2) ethernet cable form router to pc.0 -
adildr.sys relates to usb/adsl modem drivers, uninstall it from device manager if you aren't using it.
ethernet cable avoids usb and wireless issues if it's a practical distance.!!
