I hope this is possible as I need mine doing now too... I don't think it is though.

I'd imagine all the answers to this and other similar questions are to be found on the DVLA website.

Presumably there is a means by which they can get access to a digital photograph from an electronic copy of your passport on file with the Passport Agency for use on your new driving licence but that's just a shot in the dark based on what you said in your post. No idea if this is or isn't possible.

Personally I just sent a passport photo off to the DVLA with the relevant form and a cheque in an envelope but I'm old-fashioned that way. :)

Hi, I have been on dvla site and that,s where it says renew license online, but when I look further it says renew photo online, using digital copy of passport photo+ £20 fee.Presume this must renew it totally for 10 more years, I see no other reason to change photo otherwise. Thanks for reply.PS. Do they notify you when time to change nears.D46 form.?

It seems like a bit of a contradiction that you could use a 5 year-old passport photo for example to renew your driving licence photo card for 10 years. It was my understanding that the whole point of the 10-year limit to the photo cars was that they're renewed each time with the most up-to-date likeness. So unless the passport photo they have access to is practically brand-new then the process seems a little contradictory.

Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree here. :)

I have just renewed my driving licence on-line and they used a passport photograph from 6 years ago. DVLA can access your passport photo electronically.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

Me too, there websiteis rather vague. It says you can do it using 5 year passport, may be better to play safe and use post, but have to buy new photos again, onlines easier if they copy passport photo. You can have a lot of facial surgery in 5 years.

So they want everyone to renew their photo card every ten years in order to ensure an up-to-date likeness, but they'll happily use a six year-old passport photo with a likeness that will be on its way to twenty years-old when the photo card is next up for renewal?

    Crazy. :D

If I request a replacement driving licence because I've lost my paper counterpart does it reset to 10 years expiry if I give them my passport number?

It just proves it,s only a moneymaking ploy. Why am I not surprised? My Passport photo and driving license are same anyway.10 years ago, renewed paper license using 2 of 4 photos taken at booth, and used other 2 when I renewed my passport 5 years ago.Haven,t changed much.cannot make a silk purse of a sows ear.
