has any one heard of a company touting it self as utilita???
i got a glossy brochure from a doorstep call yesterday and they reckon that they are the cheapest provider for electric around.
they also reckon that if i fit there meter even though i am on prepayment that i will get the same price as people paying by direct debit.
there website tell you all this but i havent found anything about them or even heard of them before so i am just very sceptical about changing supplier as i have been bit before.
if any on has any idea about them please let me know i just dont want to be scammed again.
the website is utilita co uk
thanks

It even has some links back to some MSE threads.

Do your own homework, never believe anything a doorstep salesman or one of their glossy leaflets tell you. Go to one of the comparison sites, input your annual consumption in kWh and let it show you the cheapest option. If Utilita reckon they will be cheaper you must be on an expensive tariff now0

many thanks for your info that has helped me decide nope i aint gonna take the chance0

I am supplied by Utilita for my gas and electricity and have been for over 2 years. I am a prepay customer and they put in smart meters for me which are really good, and i nver get cut off at the weekend. They are also the cheapest in my area.
Really Good.0 -
YOu signed up just to praise the company. Do you work for them?0

I don't know about cheaper, but they do install smart meters which make paying by prepayment much, much easier that using old style ones. Other suppliers are starting to trial them now, but Utilita are still the main way to be sure you'll get smart meters put in.
And no, I definitely don't work for UtilitaI am an employee of British Gas, however the views expressed on this post are mine and do not necessarily reflect the views of Centrica, its subsidiaries or affiliated companies.0 -
Does anyone have any experience of Utilita, as a customer paying by monthly DD?
Almost all the info and reviews of Utilita (including their own website) are for, and by, pre-payment customers.
UK Power's comparison tool brings out Utilita's Energy Saver tariff as cheapest for my usage pattern, and it's monthly DD only.
Does Utilita install smart meters for all customers, or only for pre-payment?
What happens if you later leave Utilita? Do they take the meter away again?
Any other useful information welcome.
I've emailed them, but no reply yet.
(Edit: Well, apparently the customer services email address quoted on Utilita's website doesn't work. My email's come back undelivered. Not a good recommendation!)
Next cheapest would be Utility Warehouse, but there seems to be a lot of negative feedback about them.0 -

Currently, the specs for smart metering are to be published so I wouldn't worry too much about this.
Smart meters are "dumbed down" for switching away as there is no guarantee any other supplier uses the same ones.
Soon there will be the network required to pass servings between parties but there is no guarantee a smart meter would be compliant to use it as there is no compliance issue for a non compliant smart meter to act as a normal meter (hence a newer smart meter would be fitted to bring it up to spec).
So, if they give you the smart features you want, just remember you will lose them if you switch away. You can monitor consumption with any meter or monitor or both and work out the kwh value manually if you need it until this is all sorted out.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
Thanks, Terrylw1.
I'll stay where I am for now (Eon). The financial saving would be the only reason to move, but it's not enough to be worth possible untold problems with meters, nor leaving a company with excellent customer service for people I can't email, and whose website doesn't cater for all their customers.
I posted my previous message because I was already doubtful about them.
I'm not in a hurry to have a smart meter - I'm perfectly happy to send in readings from my present "dumb" meter. Gives me some illusion of control!0
