I watched a review of the most popular 3 on the gadget show a week or two ago. The aspire one came out on top for battery life, durability and general internet usage etc. Do a search, i'm sure you'll find it.
Incidentally I've got the aspire one but its almost 12 months old and I've just had to replace the battery (£30 ebay) but I now get approximately 6 hours battery life and I'm well pleased with it. It came with Windows 7 starter and has 160g hard drive. Paid £229 in Sainsburys for it.LBM: 22.12.2010 :j Self-managed DMP start 29.1.2011DMP Mutual Support Thread No: 4130 -

Thanks, i think the same one is on argos for £199 so i may go for that....:T0 -
I must add the reason why I had to purchase a new battery is I use the netbook as my main home pc so in effect its probably been on every day since I got it for a few hours and even though i discharged and then charged the battery regularly, all batteries deteriorate over time.LBM: 22.12.2010 :j Self-managed DMP start 29.1.2011DMP Mutual Support Thread No: 4130

It's a few years old now, but I'm very happy with my Asus EEE 901, which I got secondhand for £150. Windows XP ran okay, but the antimalware applications (Avira Antivir, Spybot, MalwareBytes' AntiMalware and SpywareBlaster) performed very slowly. I switched to Arch Linux and the performance is much better - I love it!
Maybe you can find a cheap one on eBay for half your budget...?0 -
Been shopping today, now the wife says she dont want a netbook ( to small ) so it's back to the drawing board...she wants something 13" or 14" that is not to heavy...:beer:0

At that price point, not likely.
Perhaps a customer return if you are lucky.
How about this one? MSI WIND U230 12.1" Screen £233.98
Not sure if the pink is the newer version. If so, this model in white is the old version. Perhaps with a lesser battery life.
Personally, I would just get a normal laptop.0 -
why does your wife not want a netbook? in my experience they're better for women / people with small hands! and you can always plug it into your telly for a larger screen (i think!).
i love my samsung NC10 - which i use as my sole computer and also cart about in my handbag - the keyboard is very usable (unlike some netbooks) and you get used to the screen size especially if you do some of the netbook friendly modifications suggested on sites like 'lifehacker' to maximise usable screen size.
memory and speed are absolutely fine for general use, i even watch iplayer on it no problems. and for battery life and weight and general portability and loveability it is AMAZING.
i paid £250 last year but found it for £191 on the web at the moment."The Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man's greed" - Ghandi0 -
