Is your concern malware or speed?

Check these in Hijack and remove them:
    O2 - BHO: Lexmark Toolbar - {1017A80C-6F09-4548-A84D-EDD6AC9525F0} - C:\Program Files\Lexmark Toolbar\toolband.dll
    O2 - BHO: Search Helper - {6EBF7485-159F-4bff-A14F-B9E3AAC4465B} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Search Enhancement Pack\Search Helper\SEPsearchhelperie.dll (this is the windows live search)
    O2 - BHO: Windows Live ID Sign-in Helper - {9030D464-4C02-4ABF-8ECC-5164760863C6} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live\WindowsLiveLogin.dll
    O3 - Toolbar: Lexmark Toolbar - {1017A80C-6F09-4548-A84D-EDD6AC9525F0} - C:\Program Files\Lexmark Toolbar\toolband.dll
    O8 - Extra context menu item: Google Sidewiki... - res://C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google Toolbar\Component\GoogleToolbarDynamic_mui_en_89C3 0F0F8BD011D2.dll/cmsidewiki.html
    O16 - DPF: {C345E174-3E87-4F41-A01C-B066A90A49B4} (WRC Class) - http://trial.trymicrosoftoffice.com/...soft/wrc32.ocx
    O18 - Protocol: wlpg - {E43EF6CD-A37A-4A9B-9E6F-83F89B8E6324} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\AlbumDownloadProtocolHandler.dll

These don't need to autostart, so can untick in msconfig:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] C:\Program Files (x86)\Hp\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe ARM] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0\AdobeARM.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"
    O4 - Startup: OpenOffice.org 3.3.lnk = C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenOffice.org 3\program\quickstart.exe

Control Panel > Java > advanced > misc > untick quickstart, make sure it's unticked in msconfig
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Java\Java Update\jusched.exe"

Do you use the Windows sidebar? If not, then untick in msconfig:
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\Run: [Sidebar] %ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\Sidebar.exe /autoRun (User 'LOCAL SERVICE')
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-20\..\Run: [Sidebar] %ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\Sidebar.exe /autoRun (User 'NETWORK SERVICE')

Press Start > services.msc, then look for the following and set them to manual:
    O23 - Service: GamesAppService - WildTangent, Inc. - C:\Program Files (x86)\WildTangent Games\App\GamesAppService.exe
    Edit: removed HP entries

In services.msc, set these to disabled:

O23 - Service: Google Update Service (gupdate) (gupdate) - Google Inc. - C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Update\GoogleUpdate.exe
O23 - Service: Google Update Service (gupdatem) (gupdatem) - Google Inc. - C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Update\GoogleUpdate.exe

Afterwards try using Sysinternals Autoruns, and look for other things that you think don't need to automatically start with Windows. Remember, only untick what you are absolutely sure of:

    Run malwarebytes: for malware detection.
Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.50 - FileHippo.com and Install. Click on UPDATE tab, click CHECK FOR UPDATES and run a FULL SCAN.
Remove everything it finds and post log here.

Are you aware of the complaints about Wild Tangent? Another member just posted about them charging monthly, when it was assumed it was a one off payment.

I have a related general question. What's the difference between setting a service to "Disabled" as opposed to "Manual" and what is the impact?
Never let it get you down... unless it really is as bad as it seems.

Manual means that the service is activated by a program, and so it can run when it needs to. Most services are set way, and most will rarely be activated anyway. A service that isn't running doesn't slow the computer down at all.

Setting something to manual is a good idea if you aren't sure if its completely safe to disable, as you'll avoid potential errors and maintain functionality this way.

Disabled means that it can't run at all, no matter what. You only really set this for services you definitely don't want running ever, such as uninvited Google services or needless iTunes services (such as the service to burn CDs using iTunes.) Another service I routinely disable on systems is Remote Registry, just for security reasons. When services are disabled and a program wants to start it but can't, it'll generate an error in event viewer (which is no big deal).

Saying that, there are very few Microsoft services that are safe to change from 'Automatic' to manual - it's only really 3rd party services that are safe to change. One example is Teamviewer - it sets its service to 'automatic' even if you just want to run the program manually, but works fine when you change the service to 'Manual'.
