Bathroom Help!

We've lived in our place for just under 2 years and our bath taps are on their way out *AGAIN* - 3rd time since we've been here.
At the moment we have a mixer tap and I shower every morning and there's a bath run normally everynight.
My OH reckons its going so frequently cos
1. we have hard water
2. we have mixer taps
3. we didn't buy expensive taps
We are now thinking of investing in a power/electric (not that I currently know the difference) shower and getting that fitted and better 1 hot/1 cold taps for the bathroom - hoping this will help the problem.
When my OH's parents had this done they ran the electric for the fuse for the shower from the emersion - not sure if this is conventional.
We want to get an idea of costs (parts & labour) and take it from there - I think I can find £400 to spend on this work while not ideal it'll be coming from the extra we should be taking off credit cards but as a home improvement and given we've spent over £400 fixing this issue since we moved in HOPEFULLY it will help long term.
Any advice or thoughts gratefully recieved.

What do you mean when you say they are on their way OUT? I can't imagine any taps not lasting 2yrs it doesn't make sense.. it sounds more like a pipework/system problem.. maybe pipes are that old they are furring up in some way..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Sorry for not being clearer - each time the tap just stops working, you can't turn it full on - it took 20min yesterday to run a bath! - its like you can't turn it full and when you do turn it its very stiff.
Does that help?0 -
Well if this has happened before as you say it has I'd be inclined to think its some sort of muck/scale thats coming from either the pipes or tank thats blocking the taps innards... I'm no expert maybe someone who is will pop in and tell you more . I really can't imagine several sets of taps have broken in normal use...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Hi,
It would seem to me that for the sake of some basic maintenance you are looking to spend £400 on an alternative.
Has anyone stripped down the tap headworks, cleaned and regreased them? (Silicon grease).
If not then that's what you need to try first. If they are quarter turn then (at less than 2 years old) you should be able to identify and find replacement cartridges, but I would say overhauling them would be the first step.
