Is it worth claiming HB/CTB for £48 P.M.

I have just run a simulation, on turn2us, for me when I reach 65 which is not too far away. It shows HB/CTB at £48 PM and I wonder if it is worth the stress it seems to be to apply for this amount. We could manage without but any extra money would be useful.
Apart from the obvious £48 PM does it lead to any other advantages/benefits?
As always any help would be good - thanks.

My opinion is that, if you're of pensionable age then the paperwork would be a once off hassle - so worth doing. If, like me, you're self-employed with earnings changing daily/weekly and no clue how much you'll have this month/next month/over the year, then it would be too much of a pain in the neck to bother.
But .... doing that paperwork once is worthwhile, NOT for the £48/month, but for the other stuff you can get because you're on that benefit. e.g. reduced entry to events, reduced fees for any recreational courses etc.
These days discounts are usually linked into a benefit, so it's worth doing it just for some random future saving you could potentially make on something you don't even know you're interested in yet

Thanks PN.
I guess what puts me off the paperwork. My brain is less able than ever to take on too much stress as recently shown when I made an ESA claim. That was turned down (3 NI contributions short) but created numerous phone calls and lots of paperwork.
It is the other benefits I need to look into and as you say even those which I may not even realise now that could crop up.0 -
