Replace gas fire with the most powerful alternative

We have had to have our gas flue removed during work on our loft conversion.

Our sitting room is very hard to heat and I badly miss it!

The fire has to be fitted on an internal wall.

I don't therefore think another gas fire is possible - correct me if I'm wrong. Is it possible to get a poweful electric fire - most of them seem pretty weedy. Any suggestions?

You can get another gas fire - google for flueless gas fires - this one came up for me :

    http://www.fireplacemegastore.co.uk/catalytic-flueless-gas-fires/burley-acumen-flueless-gas-fire-4111

which is 4.5kW. You may need additional ventilation and minimum room sizes are applicable. There were plenty more less powerful and cheaper ones.

Alternatively I have a Provence Calor heater which is also flueless and looks a bit like a freestanding stove. I use it in an outside cabin, but they are suitable for lounges.

Don't bother with fluless gas fires. You have to increase the amount or air flow though the room so you end up heating the outside, best bet is a decent electric fire.

I replaced my gas fire and did a lot of research into flue-less fires. They seem a good idea at first, but............

    Need a lot of maintenance.
May need additional ventilation to the room (more cold air !)
All the combustion products go into the room.
May cause breathing problems with people with breathing problems.

    Would suggest you read this:

    PS: I didn't get one !

What's a fluorescent gas fire? Bit of a major typo there I think Steve
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Thanks for all the help. I have a guy from the local fireplace shop coming in next weekend to look what we have and advise. Looking like a weedy electric fire is going to be the way forward, maybe we can at least get one that looks nice.
