E&L wedding insurance

Okay so after many websites and comparing quotes, E&L came in cheapest and offered a good level of cover for £26 including Public liability (I believe the insurance would have been £18 without)
It was late and I was rushing. I filled in the required bank account number and sort code.
I think I mis-typed my sort code which I think now is a GOOD thing. I didnt read reviews for the first time ever with anything as I said I was rushing... wish I hadn't! People have reported as having had money just taken from their bank accounts, and here int he small print they emailed me
"During your insurance with us we may offer upgraded benefits, alter cover and increase premiums as we decide is necessary. You will receive at least 14 days notice of any
alterations in cover or premium"
Someone on another site said they received a letter looking like junk mail from E&L but reading the small print they were being told they required an upgrade. Should they wish to not get the upgrade simply return the form in the prepaid envelope within X days. No envelope included and by the time the person read the letter E&L had taken more money from their bank.
I wish to stop this. Initial documents received 28th April and included within that document is the 14 day cancellation notice.
Can I contact my bank to stop/block any DD's other than standard monthly bills. E&L are not answering phones, nor returning voicemails.
This is the first time I have ever gone for something without proper research and its not looking good. If I block via bank and email and call E&L is that fine? I understand insurance with E&L won't be in place then
TIA for any help

You really need to ring them and cancel the policy and not just cancel your direct debit as they could treat that as lack of payment and put the policy into default where it gets passed to debt collectors etc.
Seems a very odd system where they upgrade your policy as and when they please and you then have to say no.... if that was such a good idea surely every other company would follow in suit... just a naughty way to make more money0 -
Just read through the tiny tiny small print they have emailed me and it seems I have indeed mis-typed my sort code. Whilst I am releived they wont get any money, am I liable to pay? I really want to cancel this insurance and go with a different, more reputable company ASAP.Baby daughter born 13.2.10 :j 6lb 11.5oz0

Just cancel it with them but if you've accepted the policy then yes you need to pay for the insurance else you will be in breach of the T&C's you agreed to. Ring them and cancel the Insurance, your entitled to a 14 day cooling off period.0 -

Thanks for the help. I will leave another message tomorrow, as I doubt they will answer, explaining my details, and my wish to cancel. I will keep a record of this message, and quote it in an email to them, reiterating what I said in the voice call.
Should that be enough in terms of law that I have done everything I can to inform them of my wish to cancel. I can even print it and post it too...Baby daughter born 13.2.10 :j 6lb 11.5oz0 -
Thanks for this - just a bit panicky as we are living pay cheque to pay cheque and any unpaid DD's would wreck my (slowly improving) credit rating.

I would ring to cancel and if they're as bad as you say, possibly pop a letter in the post confirming you want to cancel too! Hope it gets sorted soon0
