Hi,
Has any one worked out how much a loaf of bread costs to make including the cost of electric?
is it still going to work out cheaper than a cheap loaf from the supermarket for under 40p. I know its certainly going to taste nicer than a cheap loaf, but am i saving money? It's the start of the no takeaway challenge.0 -
Don't know exactly but a loaf in the local coop is 69p now, was 65p last week, that's risen from around 50p mark since October. To be honest everythings rising in price so will probably still save money (aswell as knowing what goes in your food!!)One day I might be more organised...........

I have done some actual costings on the `tougher` thread. It does work out far cheaper to use a breadmaker. I used an energy meter and the results are accurate0

The only way it's cheaper to buy decent bread is if you can get it in the 10p reduced to clear bins. I make my own bread most of the time now, but I do buy the rtc bread when I see it to give hubby a change.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0

hello,
i am interested in making my own bread, i dont like the cheaper ranges of white bread, (DH does) but i love wholemeal bread which again in the chepaer ranges never tastes particularly nice!
breadmakers are quite pricey though, i know some peeps on here recommend a panasonic one, but not sure which one or which features i should be looking for??
also how much am i looking at for a HM Wholemeal loaf, and what size would it be??
i would greatly appreciate any advice.
thanksPlease be nice to all moneysavers!

Hi Mumof4,
There's an earlier thread on the cost of making bread so I've added your thread to it to keep the replies together.
This thread may help too: Bread Maker - worth it?
Pebbles have a look at this thread:
Which Bread Maker?
The Panasonic is the one most recommended but I bought a Morphy Richards when it was offer to see if I would actually use one or if it would get relegated to the back of a cupboard and I'm happy with it. When it dies I might replace it with a Panasonic though.
