Reclaiming ppi without a policy number?

I've had a couple of loans with RBS over the last 4-5 years and have paid them off, I don't have any of the paperwork now and so have no policy numbers, I do have bank statements showing the payment going into my account and all the payments I made. What I'm wondering is if this is enough to reclaim any PPI on these loans?

Thanks

    Hi and welcome

Is the account number of the loan showing next to the monthly repayments on your statements?

You could ring them otherwise and tell them you have came across statements with the amounts, and would they kindly supply the loan account numbers.

Otherwise you could request for a SAR (Subject Access Request) from RBS, give them as many details as possible in order for them to fine details on your account.
They should be able to send data going back the last 6 years, so any details of your loans should also be enclosed.
This though you have to enclose £10 postal order or cheque payment, and they have 40 calendar days to comply.

SAR letter template below link, if you decide to want to request for this, tweak to your requirements if you want.

So as long as you have your reasons to make a reclaim on the ppi, and your account numbers, your ready to make the reclaim.

Complete questionnaire, send to the ones who sold you the account, head office or complaints dept, keep copies of everything, and allow 8 weeks for a decision, good luck.

    Hi All,

So, I have finally got around to sending off my PPI complaint form, but I know that it will come straight back to me because there is something important missing!

I have completed the complaint form, but I DO NOT have a policy number for my PPI. All of the paperwork that I have for my Lloyds TSB loan only quotes the loan a/c reference number. There is no separate policy number for my PPI cover, I have never been sent one. I even have an A4 sheet with a complete breakdown of my PPI cover and there in the top right hand corner.......my loan a/c reference number!

I did contact Lloyds and even they can't find a policy number for my PPI?!?! Surely they can link up my loan a/c reference number to my PPI policy???

If they can't sort this out, then I have been paying £66.41 a month (for the last 60 months), into an insurance policy that doesn't actually exist?!

Maybe then they should pay me back then for payments made into a non-existent insurance policy rather than mis-sold PPI?

    Regards

    Graham
  • I've only ever had 1 main loan and that was with the HFC Bank.
I'm 31 now and it was back around when i was 18/19 years old. Igot in money difficulties but managed to pay it off with the help of my parents. (whom i paid back) but i have no paperwork and no evidence of policy or account numbers.

i used your online template letter to contact them directly and they replied with a letter asking for my 'then' address, date of birth and account/policy number. the first two i can obviously provide but the account number i have no idea what to do about!!

Can i give them a ring and ask for my account number if i give them info on myself? or should they be able to find my records from my name, DOB and address? plus it was 10+ years ago so i'm worried they'll just say it was too long ago to claim!

    Thank you :)

You could ring and ask with the info you have, if you have a local branch near to you then pop in, I think 10+ years is a long time the data will have been destroyed now.

You do not need the PPI policy number to make a claim, the agreement number is enough, see what they come back with and take it from there, if they say there is no PPI and you can prove that you paid this, ask them to refund this money that you paid for 60 months.
  • Hi,
Having moved and shredded a bunch of stuff I had a professional studies loan - then transferred into a managed loan - but I have no policy number...

If you have sent a SAR and nothing came back, your complaint is over.

If you haven't, send thema SAR and £10 - see the front page sticky for a template, include all th einfo you can, past addresses etc.

Be warned, you may be wasting £10 because nothing may be left.
