Liability insurance for self employed

Hi,
I hope this is the right place to post this as I wasn't sure.

I am about to take voluntary redundancy for a local authority, I am a social worker. I am looking at becoming independent and doing some assessment work for agencies, however, I know I would need insurance but not really sure where to start. Has anyone got any knowledge of this that they could share with me please?

Many thanks

Local broker is a good place to start.
Much as everyone else hates Swinton, they were excellent for me, and found me insurance covering a few peculiar requirements I needed that no one else covered.
I think local offices vary, but mine is always good, the national call centre not so good.

Are you a member of BASW? You might find they have products you could find useful. I guess Professional Indemnity cover will be the most likely need?

Have you spoken to any agencies yet? If they place you with another local authority, you'd probably be covered by their insurance arrangements. Are you looking at fully independent work, or perhaps with the voluntary/charity sector?

    Hi,
No I'm not a member of BASW. At the moment what I have done is research independent fostering agencies on line and looked at their vacancies. I haven't submitted any CV's yet. I have a lot of experience but have worked in the same post for over 20 years so haven't moved about at all. I am exploring independent work but have also looked at the voluntary/charity sector and wouldn't altogether rule it out. For the last 11 years I have worked from home and wouldn't want to go back to be based in an office.
