What IS this mysterious "area x"? I'm sure we're all dying to know now.0

So you'd not want somebody better, that wasn't local?
That's almost racist.....
don't be daft. We don't care where they are from but we know there are only a few people with this expertise around, and the chance of them coming across our ad on jobcentre site are small.
Anyway, the person appointed immigrated to the UK, along with exactly 70% of our staff. We are like the UN here!:jCash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.
Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
I know it's all about equal opps, tickboxes and scoring these days, but how interviewers and candidates resonate with each other is also important. I've sat on interview panels and if you feel a person is 'wrong' it will affect how their answers are interpreted. It's not as clinical a science as people like to make out. And of course it cuts both ways. How many times have you come away from an interview and been relieved to find you didn't get it? I know I have...0

Why would that be a problem? :rotfl:Strider590 wrote: »It's like complaining to the colour blind boss of a painter/decorator company, that his staff have painted your house bright pink.
Not on a bloke ...Big breasts usually helps.
I think we're all agreed it's not an exact science. What we're saying (here and elsewhere) is that there are ways of improving your chances, and ways of sabotaging yourself, and quite often these ways are blindingly obvious to those of us on the other side of the interview table, but not, apparently, to candidates. It's not as clinical a science as people like to make out.
I've had an email today from someone asking when a particular job is going to be shortlisted. Now this suggests that they either haven't read or haven't understood where we say "we try to contact all applicants but if you haven't heard from us by x date please assume you have not been shortlisted", because that date is still a while away. And usually I HAVE been in touch with all applicants before that date.
Added to which I know already they will NOT be shortlisted, because their personal statement is 6 lines long, they don't have the experience we need, and they don't have the qualifications we need.
Oh YES! But when they don't offer it to me, I still think "their loss" ... :rotfl:And of course it cuts both ways. How many times have you come away from an interview and been relieved to find you didn't get it? I know I have...Signature removed for peace of mind0
