The dreaded water meter has now reached our street and I was wondering, is it ok to use old washing up water (assuming it's not too greasy) for watering plants, once it's cooled down a bit? If not for plants, maybe throw it on the grass?

Yes
I think it is recommended that you let it settle and use the water, disposing of the grunge down the drain. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I'm not sure about normal washing up liquid, but I'm sure on the back of ecover washing up liquid it says you can use the washing up water with it in.0

We do use ours even though we do not have a meter. As there is only two os us we use very little "squeezy". At the moment we are using it at the base of our large Camelia which has not flowered well for the first time this year. I don't like to throw water away especially when we have just used it for a few dishes.0
