Dead iPod part 2

Hi again!
A few days ago I posted a thread on here regarding my iPod that died on me after 16 months. I received the very helpful suggestion to check the Sale of Goods Act, which states that goods should last a reasonable amount of time. I am not a lawyer, but according to that law, Apple should either replace or repair my iPod, as it is expected to last longer than 16 months.
When I called their customer relations department with this information, the guy on the other end agreed with me that 16 months is not a reasonable amount of time (this is the THIRD time someone from Apple says this!!), but he point blank refused to do anything for me.
When I asked him whether he couldn't or didn't want to, he replied: "Both".
I told him I was more than willing to take this to the small claims court if he didn't honour my rights, but he could not care less.
I pointed out to him that surely it would be much easier to repair my iPod than have to go to court (not to mention a lot less costly), but all to no avail.
I stayed friendly on the phone, but you do not want to know what I shouted once I had put it down...
It feels like I am hitting a brick wall, but I am not giving up on this one. It is just ridiculous to expect me to pay for a new one every 16 months.
I now have an address for the customer relations department which I will write to, but in the meantime I would like to ask if any of you have any more ideas (or people I could contact within Apple, as the customer relations department over the phone is obviously not an option). It seems I am far from the only one with this problem, and I am thinking it might be worth writing a newspapaer or two to ask for some help.
Anybody?
Thanks!
Lyn

Did you actually buy the iPod directly from Apple? Under the SOGA, your contract is with the retailler, not the manufacturer, so it's the retailler you should be chasing.0

Yes I did, on their web site. Just wrote them an email as well, we'll see...0

Get in touch with your local Trading Standards (in your local phone book). See what advice/help they can offer (they may back up your case with a letter). How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Sorry – I missed this – how did it die? Only I had a problem with the scroll wheel dying on mine recently and thought I'd have to replace it but the solution was SOOOO simple. I'm sure it's not the same but you never know...0
