Calgon and hard water in washing machine

    I'm going to bump this thread as it's very relevant.
    Have had an engineer out twice in last month due to pump not working on washing machine.
    Of course hotpoint are blaming limescale buildup (Having kept fish for years i know we are in a pretty hard water area), but engineers are not.
    I'm pretty sure it was a faulty pump
    They've replaced the pump and i had a good look.
    It does actually have a fair build up of limescale, considering washing machine is only about 18 months old, and so did the plug at the bottom of the machine.

    So, any new tips?
    Does a hot wash with nothign in every month or so really keep it down?

    A hot wash (90°) with a hand full or two of Soda Crystals in the drum is supposed to help clean soap scum and prevent limescale. It also removes any stale odours that you may have inside the drum

    You can buy Soda Crystals at most supermarkets, hardware stores and Robert Dyas's.
