Hi everyone
Looking for some advice. We thought we had damp in our alcoves but its condensation the damp guy said (we had damp proof years ago and still got a 30yr warranty)
He recommend using moisture resistant plasterboards, are these worth the extra expense and will it stop it coming through in a few years time?
We have 4 alcoves approx 2.5mx0.5m each so would say 4/5 8x4 boards, not sure if they are the same size
We have not great windows so i asume its coming from them, these will be replaced in the next 12 months
any advice would be great

Well if it is condensation then I don't see how moisture resistant plasterboard would stop the condensation, but it should be more resistance to the moisture and less likely to disintegrate.
I'd have thought you'd be better off, at first, looking for ways to stop the condensation - as mentioned, either through better ventilation or perhaps using some form of insulated lining product to stop the moisture condensing on the surface.0 -
You are going about this the wrong way. You should be looking at removing the cause of the condensation and not spending money on materials to resist the effects of condensation. Condensation is not inevitable, the first thing to do is to fit an effective extraction fan. Then ensure that the room is warm. Unless you have baths and showers at ludicrously high temperatures it is quite possible to virtually eliminate condensation. There is no window in my bathroom, just a 9" extraction fan. It is heated only by a towel rail connected to the hot water circuit, not the central heating, and I can honestly say that I never get any condensation, in fact, the mirror does not even steam up usually.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
I cannot fit a fan as its in the living room. But will make some air vent holes at the bottom of them.0
