Easyjet Hold Luggage - I am confused!

Can someone clarify please. Reading the easyjet website it says that ""Each passenger who pays for a hold bag can take up to 20kg of luggage.""
So I have paid for 3 bags so therefore I thought 60kg in total .....
BUT
on checking my booking receipt it says that 3 checked bags per flight between all passengers combined up to a total combined weight of 96kg.
There is 5 of us travelling.

Since it is printed on my receipt will I go with the 96kg ?

It think you will find that 96 kg is maximum amount the three bags can weigh. i.e 32kg max per bag.

If you want to use that allowance you will have to pay extra for every kg over and above the 60kg you have already paid for.

just wondering why they would tell me in my itinerary 96kg if I have to pay for anything over 60kg ? - as it gives the option to add more weight/bags

Did you book quite a while ago like myself last October-ish? The rules then were different so you paid on the understanding that 5 peoples allowances could be pooled across the 3 bags.

ok, this is how I think it works.

Each person is allowed a luggage allowance of 20kgs, but can't carry it unless they have a bag 'booked'.

As you are a party of 5, but have only booked 3 bags, you have a total baggage allowance of 100kg (5 x 20kg) even though you only have 3 bags booked.

However, the max weight limit for a single bag is 32kg, thus the total limit being 96kg (3 x 32kg).

    make sense? lol

(I worked this out from looking at other threads etc around the net, so is not from own experience - hopefully someone else will confirm it) :)

That is how it works for the OP because he booked last year. If you book now the limit is 20 kg per bag.

Thats the best explanation I have heard as to how it worked:beer:

I think it was a loophole that they have now closed. must have cost them a fortune for couples sharing up to 32 kg but only paying for 1 @ 20kg.:T

32KG is a hell of a weight to cart around with you too.
Especially if you've got 25KG each in hand-baggage!!
I love watching people struggle to put their bags into the overhead cabin locker.;)
