Child benefit and ALG

Hi

Does anyone know if it's still possible to claim child benefit if the child is claiming ALG?

Thanks in advance :)

it's an adult learning grant, you have to be aged between 19 and 25 to get it.
    whyis the child getting ALG?
if the child is under 20 and in full time non higher education.
is the 'Adult' part of it a bit of a clue? lol

The child dropped out of their A level course after the first year, then started a two year college course. So is, effectively, a year behind their peers. They are currently claiming EMA but plan on claiming ALG when this runs out in July.

I also thought the same about the 'Adult' part - but it wouldn't surprise me to be honest! Oh, the child is not mine btw.

    How old is she?
Is she sure her EMA will run out in July? I cannot remember the rules but when I repeated the year in sixth form I continued receiving EMA until the end of my course because I was under 20.

I've just looked into it and it stops at 19 apparently, so the child will be too old for it.

EMA stops at 20, not 19.

I have a relative who did something similar from what I understand he received EMA until his course completed.

EMA is stopping at the end of this year anyway - http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/14To19/MoneyToLearn/EMA/index.htm and it is now up to FE colleges to support needy students through their own funds (and using their own criteria to determine who should get help). Apparently students who got the full £30 this year should still get some help.
