Best weedkiller for paths/patio advice

I have a very large badly laid patio which gets so bad with weeds/grass in the cracks that it needs mowing! Also is an ex-council house with badly cracked paths which also needs mowing the weeds are so bad!!

Now, each year I try a different weedkiller using a spray. Takes ages and kills my back. Just done it again using a well known product which claims 'one season application'. We cannot afford to re-lay the patio/concrete paths so does anyone have experience of these products and the best one to use? I am not sure if I can actually name products that i have used (somebody will tell me if I can) so can anyone pm (or write on this thread if allowed) me to let me know successful products they have used in the past?

Thanking you all in advance!

Pathclear and Wilkinsons do one too, they do work but can be pricey. You can no longer buy Sodium Chlorate due to the terrorists using it, and idiots drinking it. But what you can use is good old fashioned Table Salt (Sodium Chloride) make a strong solution in hot water and pour on the area required - but be warned it will kill any plants and nothing will grow for several months, which should give you enough time to make up a dry mix of sand and cement to brush into the cracks in the patio, ideally before rain is due.
My Mind wanders, if found please return.

salt will work - dont use it anywhere that you want to grow things though. Ie dont put it on weeds in borders etc

Hmmm... well, in searching for an answer to that question, it seems that the internet consensus (if there is any such thing) is that you should avoid using common salt as a weedkiller.

The reason given is that, unlike Sodium Chlorate, it does not break down in the soil, and so is much more likely to leach out and into ground water reserves.

Incidentally, don't bother using hot water if you want salt to dissolve quicker - unlike substances such as sugar, it dissolves very nearly as fast in cold water as hot.

Of course you can name brands that you have tried! Why wouldn't you be able to?

Any product that contains glyphosate is the standard weed killer. It works perfectly on growing active weeds, and you NEED a dry day to apply it. Any rain that falls before the leaves dry off after your application will wash the chemical off.

Failing that, employ a local qualified contractor to do a quick spray 3 times a season for you.

    Where are you based?

Resolva24 is amazing. things start going brown in less than 24 hours and gone pretty rapidly. It isn't a preventative but does kill what is there.

I used Wilkinson's Glyphosate on my block paving and it worked well - eventually. Was almost giving up hope on the dandelions but after about 4 weeks they finally died so be prepared to wait.
