I got my new laptop 15th march from pc world, purchased there extended warrenty thing.
Last nite I altered the screen and crack! not the glass it's self but inside, went straight back to pc world and they said it had to be sent off to be repaired, I thought surely if this was less than 3 weeks old and no fault of my own surely it sholud of been replaced there and then.? Am I wrong in thinking this??

You have the right to ask for a refund or new replacement in the first 4-6 weeks. If you agree to a repair then you've waived the right to a refund - unless the repair isn't done within a reasonable timeframe or the problem re-occurs, in which case you can ask for a refund again.0

Screens don't just break by moving the lid, there must have been excessive pressure applied.
Count yourself lucky they aren't charging you for a replacement screen.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -

They would have to prove that excessive pressure was applied.
I can't imagine how people would break a laptop screen in the ordinary course of things unless they really mishandled it (even though I know the majority of the time is is because of mishandling.)0 -

Not necessarily. Acer screens have a reputation for cracking all by themselves never mind when they are adjusted.
It happened to me about a year ago and I did some searching on the net at the time. I found many, many people suffering similar damage in similar ways. Needless to say Acer denied there was a problem.Herman - MP for all!0 -

Yes you are wrong. Do you honestly think that PC world carry a full stock of spare parts for every laptop they sell?
You can reject the laptop for a full refund in the first few weeks. As you didn't choose this you can ask for a replacement but you have to give them the opportunity to rectify the fault.0 -

Basically they didn't give me a choice of the refund they said it was to be sent for repair or nothing?0

PCW routinely ignore the relevant laws when it comes to faulty goods. You can't rely on them to look out for your best interests. The staff at such stores seem to believe your only rights lie in the 1 year warranties, and don't seem to think you have any statutory rights.
When you receive your laptop back, judge whether or not you are happy with the quality of repairs - if not, write a physical letter outlining the retailer's responsibilities under the Sales of Goods Act, and ask for your money back.
I wouldn't waste time on phone or in person, as you will get further talking to a brick wall. Obviously, it'll be a good idea to get acquainted with the relevant laws - do some searching and reading.0 -

I didn't mean replace the screen there and then, I ment totally replace the whole laptop for a new one with it being only 3 wks old and not my fault, If I was my own fault do you think I would post on here??0
