  • You just don't get it do you?
Too busy quoting act and section and stating the obvious.
    Let me try again.
I fully accept what I did was wrong
I'm taking the punishment like a man, not whinging about what the court gave me in the slightest
Yes I understand I had a choice and I chose the wrong one and ended up with a 28 day ban...not the end of the world
What I do object to is the fact that insurers have carte blanch to cancel ones insurance in these cases thus heaping a bigger financial penalty on the motorist than would be if he'd just cancelled the policy himself and sorned the vehicle until the ban was served.
As I stated from the outset, I was fully prepared to pay a surcharge to cover any perceived increase in risk that Hastings may feel was warranted...but no, not satisfied with that they see an opportunity to squeeze even more money out of the motorist by cancelling the policy thus adding a premium to any future quote, furthermore the fact I now have a conviction will bump up my premiums anyway ( something I was prepared for I might add)
Now can we put our high horses into stables and discuss this as adults?
  • I am currently with hastings/advantage.
I took on a role as a volunteer helping elderly and vulnerable adults, I need class 1 business because I get a small allowance for using my car.
Hastings/ advantage wanted £287. for this. I left a scathing comment on their face book page this has now been removed.
there are no contact details for Advantage, you have to deal with Hastings.
needless to say I won't be using them again
  • I have taken a voluntary role with my local authority, helping e;derby and vulnerable adults.
I will have to use my car for which I will get a small mileage allowance, I must have class 1 business insurance. the other 15 volunteers got this free of charge.
Hastings want £287, virtually doubling my premium.
I posted a scathing complaint on their FB page, this has been removed
  • I am in my third year insuring with these underwriters (Advantage) and broker (Hastings Direct). I have never made a claim and have a perfect no claims bonus. My policy renewed in March. Suddenly, I received a letter with no explanation stating that they were serving me with 7 days notice that they would be cancelling my policy. They gave absolutely no reason. I tried calling and after being on call waiting for about an hour before anyone at Hastings picked up, they were completely unhelpful. They would not give me reasons and, to make matters worse, they want to charge me a £35 cancellation fee plus they will only refund 50% of my insurance premium despite the policy only having run for less than 3 months of a one year term. These people are cowboys and I intend to escalate this matter to Trading Standards. Avoid! They are cheap but you get what you pay for in this world.... I have learned that the hard way.

Complaining to Trading Standards won't get you anywhere, so don't waste your time.

If you don't get any help from Joe, then:-
    1. Raise a formal complaint with Hastings Direct stating why you think you are being treated unfairly.
    2. If you don't get a satisfactory response, raise a complaint with the Financial Services Ombudsman.
But is there something that you should have told them, but didn't?
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
