hi everyone,
sorry to lower the tone
I have chickens who produce lots of poo!
Can i put it straight on the garden/ mix in raised beds/ in bottom of pots of extra nutrients or do i need to compost it first?
currently i compost it all but my compost is almost over flowing!
Also if i put it in a tub will it dry out like the pellets you buy in shops?
thanks

chicken manure is too strong to be used raw on your flowers or vegetables, it needs to be composted. If used without composting it could damage roots and possibly kill your plants, however, once it is composted chicken manure is: · A good soil amendment, chicken manure adds organic matter and increases the water holding capacity and beneficial biota in soil.
· A good fertilizer; chicken manure provides Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium to you plants (more than horse manure).0 -
I compost my chicken poo. If you have lots ask your neighbours if they want some. I supply my mum and her neighbours with bags of it. It's amazing how much 3 produce.0

I add chicken bedding and poop into my compost bin together with any garden waste. It helps the whole bin to break down quicker. Make sure the bin is watered occasionally. I find my bin can get quite dry which doesn't help the composting process (I don't have grass so my compost heap is minus cuttings which would probably help this).
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Can you just put all the poo, straw, sawdust and newspaper into the bin? Cant see why one wouldnt, but thought I'd ask incase someone had a clever insight that hadnt occured to me

stop egging her on. for those who wish to keep abreast of the situation, rather than operating on a wing and a prayer, (and taking note of the clucking obvious), you need to shell out on a decent composter. However, if youre cocky, you may pull off a coup. Don`t get a yoke around your neck, this was tried in Kiev, there was an almighty scramble leaving everyone with egg on their faces.Freedom is the freedom to say that 2+2 = 4 (George Orwell, 1984).
