Acer Laptop won't shut down or start up

hi there I have restarted in safe mode and pressed the F8 button and up popped a screen with ~Windows at the top with the following details:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: Bluescreen
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: **** (4 numbers don't know if I should show)
does this shed any light? Can't see where the advanced options are to try the option suggested above0 -
i've somehow stumbled on the option to restore to factory default settings so am doing that - fingers crossed.0

thanks for your help everything is fine now. However I was unable to do a back-up disc during the restoration as I didn't have any discs. Can I do this at a later date and is there a particular disc I should buy. thanks again0
