Tickets to WIMBLEDON 2011!!!

Hubby and I have been hoping and balloting (for 5 years now!) to go to Wimbledon together. Didn't make the main ballot this year either and thought that was it but...

Mr postman just delivered and smacked a permanent smile on my face when I saw a white envelope with the return address as SW19...:j

Opened it... and as sure as hell it was two tickets to Wimby (separate seats but - who cares!)! :j

And then I checked the court no. and saw it was Court 2 on Thursday 23 June - apparently a mixed doubles fiesta based on the current provisional order of play. :(

Are these tickets worth hanging on to in the hope of catching a decent men/women's singles match? Of course there is the wider experience of having a wonderful day out on, seeing the grounds and soaking up the atmosphere; but would also like to watch the likes of Nadal, Federer, Djockovic and Murray up close and personal.

Anyone got such a ticket and had singles matches played on court 2 anyway?

I have until may 19 to pay up or forfeit the tickets.

Thanks!

Court 2 is one of the new court...they've invested a lot of money in it. It is built as an arena style. As it is the first week I think you have a good chance of seeing some decent matches in there as it's def. a show court. Of course it is not Centre Court but now the only way to get Court 2 would be to queue and be one of the first to enter. I also think that once you're in and after 5pm (need to check) you can buy some return (from people leaving early and donating their tickets) for CC and No.1 for a small amount which goes to charity...That was the case in previous years...
Court 2 doesn't have a roof of course so all depend on the weather...but IMO Wimbledon is a great experience...Enjoy whatever you decide!

  • Why don't we do some sort of system where as many users of MSE enter the ballot and anyone who gets tickets posts it on a thread, and then if noone wants tickets due to price, or availability, then it can be offered to other users? That way we can increase our chance of getting a ticket. I have 2 number 1 court tickets for tuesday - 2nd day is anyone is interested?

Venus, I went to Wimbledon in 2009 and got the court no.2 tickets on the second Wednesday (same day as mens quarter finals). We ended up getting to see the Williams sisters in the doubles. It was a brilliant match!

Plus there are plenty of other courts to go and see.

Also everyone, there is always the queue. I did it for that match and we got the tickets for around £60 each I believe. Definitely worth it, it was a lot of fun! I wrote a guide on the queue in my blog:

I was 1921 in the queue and was offered court no 1. tickets but we want for court no. 2 tickets due to our budget. You definitely don't need to be 'one of the first'.
  • You can buy tickets on ticketmaster for centre court and no 3 court.

Returns for these two courts are for sale 2 days before at 12noon (I have just bought tickets for centre court for Tuesday) and they sell the back row of centre court (and presumably the back row of court 3?) at 9am the day before (ie on sale tomorrow morning for Tuesday).

Centre court tickets are £47.50 incl booking fee and court 3 £38.50.

You need to be online at the exact time though and keep clicking! It helps if there are two of you trying!
