Insuring my car temporary for New Zealand Friends

Can someone give me some advice please as I have come to a brick wall.
I have some friends coming over in June and have said they can use my car for 7 days. Its only a basic Smart Car, so nothing fancy. They are from New Zealand. The driver is 60.
My insurance company will not insure them (Swiftcover) as they say the underwriters will not allow it.
I have found one company which offer a short term insurance called Days cover, but they want £110 for 7 days! Which I cannot afford.
Has anyone ever come across this?
What is the best way to insure people from abroad?
Please Help. Many thanks.

you could ask them to cover the cost or alternatively tell them to get a hire car.0

thanks, but its an actual house/car swap.. so they are expecting me to cover the insurance costs.0

£100 doesn’t sound that unreasonable to be honest, your own insurance (if they would do it) might be cheaper but the other advantage of getting short term cover is that it protects your NCB/claims record too.
I think I might be tempted to look into car hire but do the leg work & then give your guests the money and details and let them hire it themselves, that way you won’t end up with any nasty surprises if the hire car gets damaged.0
