Issues with ants

Hello there
Never had this problem before, but I since yesterday I have had ants coming under the backdoor
I was wondering if anybody knows a pet friendly way of killing ants as they are droving me mad! I can't even do the washing up as they have conquered the sink and as well as the floor!
Even more annoying my cats just ignore them, give them a spider, fly or slug, they will kill it but not an ant lol x

Hi Firefly,
There is more advice that should help on these earlier threads:
Ants getting into the house! (merged threads)
I want to get rid of ants! (merged threads)
I'll add your thread to one of those later to keep the replies together.

I spray insect repellant across the door. That stopped them coming back xx0/2013

I always use 'Nippon ant killer gel' as the ants eat it and take it back to the nest and then they get zapped,
not sure about the pet friendly side as I dont have any but it should be on the container,
also reminds me when I bought my place in Spain I had a huge ants nest in the garden so took a couple of boxes over with me,
feeling all smug I put the bait down and NOTHING,turns out the bu9gers over there are meat eaters not sweety eaters:rotfl:I

You can buy little circular ant traps which have the poison contained inside. Usually in a pack of 2 and about £4.00.
The ants crawl into the trap, collect the poison and take it back to the nest. It will take a few days, but I have used these and they are very, very effective.£2012 in 2012 = £34.440 -
Anteaters make charming pets, are easily house-trained and cheap / free to feed

Also well worth encouraging birds into your garden.

Thanks everyone for your replies... Pink you can add this thread to one of the merged threads if you like...
I think I managed to find the problem... there were quite a few ants hanging around my Rubicon drink cans... I've took these outside now.
Also quite enjoyed sweeping them into pile, put them in the bin and took those outside too lol
We are going shopping tomorrow so I think I'm going to keep an eye out for ant repellent systems... I'm not too keen on chemicals due to having pets as they do eat the oddest things.x0
