can anyone help???? when i go round corners in my AYGO toyota. i have a rattling from what appears to be under my right front wheel area???? what could this be????

Noises are typically hard to pin point over the internet... I suggest you take it to a couple of garages to get some advice!

The seal on the bearings of the water pump is a usual suspect for water leaks.

The water pump failure usually causes a slow weep that often stops when the engine is turned off. A leak in the water pump is quite hard to detect since the pump is hidden behind the timing belt covers.

As for the level of the fluid in the expansion vessel, that is meant to rise and fall with the temperature of the engine. The level shouldn't be taken as proof of a coolant leak.

Regardless of temperature, the level in the expansion tank should never fall below minimum.

Thanks for all your responses x

I have since taken the car back to the garage the say that they have checked the head gasket and have left the engine running, however everything seems to be ok. However, I took the car home on Friday and since then…well here’s a diary!!

Since Friday 05/05/2011 I have kept a diary of events as follows:
    • Friday 06/05/2011 – drove vehicle approximately 6 miles. Checked water level and there appeared to be no water loss.
    • Saturday 07/05/2011 – Checked water again in the morning. Water had dropped below the maximum line. Drove approximately 3 miles, did not use the car for the rest of the day.
    • Sunday 08/05/2011 – Checked water level before driving the vehicle at about 12.50p/m – the water container was completely empty. I noted a wet patch under front left side, which I believe was water, however I believe it also had an oily substance.
    • Sunday 08/05/2011 - Topped up the water container with ¾ pint of water. Drove approximately 5 miles. Check water – no water loss.
    • Monday 09/05/2011 – Checked water – water container was completely empty – again water patch under the car, which had an oily substance.
    • Monday 09/05/2011 topped up water contained again with ¾ pint of water – drove to work – approximately 3 miles. Checked water, no water loss.

The car has been sitting on a slight hill today, no water patch under the car, however the water has again reduced to under the maximum!! This morning it was slightly over the maximum…So it must have gone somewhere??

I am taking the car back in and they have told me they will get a specialist to look at it…any further ideas? :(
